Here is a list of responsibilities of the volunteers for Liturgy of the Word for Children.
If you are interested in helping out please contact Jennifer Schneider in the Faith Formation office.

Presider
• Before Mass….
o Arrive at Church 20 minutes before Mass.
o Orange folders/lectionary will be upstairs in back of church.
o Materials for small group projects will be in church basement.
o Make sure all prayer cards are in place in choir room hallway prior to Mass.

o Make sure banner & all folders are in place. Folders on table in the back of Church.
o Put lectionary up on lectern stand in front of church.
o Select one of the Small Group Leaders to carry the banner.
o The folders will be in the back for Group Leaders to pick up. (some have signed up – some have not)
o If there are any folders left right before Mass starts, go up to the lector stand and announce or ask Fr. Kevin to announce how many more helpers we need.
o Stay to the back of church and be the first downstairs to get kids seated in a large group.
• Large Group (Liturgy of the Word)
o Read opening prayer with children from prayer card.
o Read First Reading from lectionary
o Read Responsorial Psalm from lectionary
o Alleluia from lectionary
o Read Gospel from lectionary
• Small Group time:
o Oversee – watch for:
• large groups that need splitting up
• discipline problems
• small group leaders that need help – give pointers

o Ring Bell – After the homily say Closing Prayer (on cards) together as a large group.
o Have the groups gather in the choir room hallway.
o The Presider will lead the group back to church and let the leaders take their groups into church.
o Return children upstairs during Offertory song or during collection upstairs.

Small Group Leaders
Before mass begins:
• Pick up folder in back of church that you have signed up for – you can sign up for any that are not signed up for.
• Wait in pew with your family (review readings and activities).
Children dismissed to LWC:
• Walk out with the children from the front of church.
• Help hand out prayer cards for groups outside choir room doorway.
Large group time:
• Follow along with large group. Try to sit with the children
• When your group is dismissed hold up your folder and lead your children to your table area
• Sit in the middle of the table with the children around you so you can see them all and they can all hear you.
Small group time (use materials in folder for the following):
• Discuss questions in folder and/or activity of that day,
• Recite Creed (2nd sheet)
• Prayers of the Faithful (3rd sheet)
• When Presider rings bell, focus your group on reading the closing prayer together as a large group.
• Have the children in your group give you their cards.
• Set the cards back on the chair when you bring your children to get in line in the.
• Accompany children in your group back into church.
